Before Luke took his shot, though, the Empire had officially unveiled their superweapon to the galaxy by destroying Jedha City, freedom fighter Saw Gerrera’s base of operations. They then used it again on the Rebels’ center of military research on Scarif, but not before Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor were able to recover the plans for the station and transmit them to Princess Leia Organa. She gave them to a couple of droids, named R2-D2 and C-3PO, who, in turn, got them to Luke and Obi-Wan Kenobi. And the rest is Star Wars history, with the Death Star being destroyed, never to threaten the universe again…at least until Palpatine and company decided to give the Rebels some serious déjà vu in Return of the Jedi and do the Death Star dance all over again with a new and improved slaying satellite. ■
